What are Neighbourhood Plans?
The Localism Act 2011 introduced a new type of planning which allows local people to come together to decide how they want their area to develop. Neighbourhood Development Plans are a significant part of the neighbourhood planning process and can be developed by Town and Parish Councils or by Neighbourhood Forums outside of the Parished areas. Once adopted, Neighbourhood Development Plans form part of the statutory development plan for the area and must be taken into consideration when determining planning applications. The Government are supporting the delivery of Neighbourhood Planning through a package of grant funding. All communities undertaking Neighbourhood Planning can apply for a grant of upto £8,000. Find out more about the support programme and how to apply.
Neighbourhood Planning in Wyre Forest District
Wyre Forest District Council has an Adopted Core Strategy, a Site Allocations and Policies Plan and a Kidderminster Central Area Action Plan. Together, these documents make up the Local Plan for the District. Neighbourhood Plans must be in general conformity with the development strategy and policies set out within these documents. Once Neighbourhood Plans are made, planning decisions will be primarily based around the policies in the Neighbourhood Plan and the District's Local Plan. In order for the Local Authority to make the plan it must first undergo an examination and then a local referendum where a minimum of 50% of those people who vote must be in favour of the plan.
