Emergency services

Phone 999 (or 112) when:

• there is an immediate danger to life
• someone is using violence or is threatening to be violent
• a road traffic collision where life is at risk, or the road is blocked
• a crime is happening right now, like a house burglary or a theft

If you don't speak English:

Phone 999, say your language or say the name of your country. An interpreter will translate your conversation.

How to make a silent 999 phone call:

Phone 999, press 55 when prompted and your call will be transferred to the police. The police will usually be able to find your location.

What happens when you phone 999?

The call handler will ask you some questions.

They will want to know things like:

the location of the emergency (postcode, What Three Words or any landmarks)
what has happened
your contact number

Ambulance Service – Phone 999 for life threatening medical emergencies like serious road traffic accidents, strokes and heart attacks.

If you’re not sure you need an ambulance, get help from NHS 111. They will tell you what you need to do or you can Check your symptoms on 111 online

Police – Phone 999 (or 112) if someone is in immediate danger.

Fire Service – Never try to tackle a fire yourself. Get out, stay out, and phone 999 (or 112) if life or property is in danger.
This includes any fires, heavy smoke, trapped individuals, chemical spills, or severe flooding.

HM Coastguard – Phone 999 if there is an emergency at sea, on the beach, or along cliffs. They will dispatch Coastguard Rescue Teams, lifeboats, or search-and-rescue helicopters.

Safeguarding services:

If you have a safeguarding concern you must take action.

If you think a child (or vulnerable adult) is in immediate danger, contact the police on 999.

If you're worried about a child but they are not in immediate danger, you should report your concerns with Report it - Worcestershire Safeguarding Boards
