Armed Forces Community Covenant
On Friday 29 June 2012 the Armed Forces Community Covenant for Worcestershire was formally signed by the Worcestershire Partnership which includes Wyre Forest District Council.
The Armed Forces Community Covenant is a voluntary statement of mutual support between a civilian community and its local Armed Forces Community. It encourages support for the Armed Forces Community working and residing in Worcestershire and recognises and remembers the sacrifices made by members of this community, particularly those who have given the most.
More information on the Armed Forces Community Covenant in Worcestershire is available on the Worcestershire County Council website.
The Ministry of Defence have set up the Covenant Grant Scheme to fund local projects which strengthen the ties or the mutual understanding between members of the Armed Forces Community and the wider community in which they live.
Armed Forces Champions
We have two armed forces champions - Councillors Kevin Gale and Alan Sutton.
Housing
We are part of the Home Choice Partnership and we share an allocations policy with the other councils in this partnership (Bromsgrove and Stratford-upon-Avon). Through our allocations policy we recognise the difficulties that armed forces personnel have satisfying local connection criteria and our housing register is therefore open to all. The priority that households are awarded on the list depends on their housing need. For general enquiries or if you are at immediate risk of becoming homeless, please call 01562 732928. For emergency out of hours help please call 01562 732225.
The demand for social housing within the Wyre Forest is very high and we are only able to assist those with urgent housing needs but we can assist households with other housing options including advising about low cost home ownership and the private rented sector. Please see the housing pages of our website for more information. Ex-service personnel may find the housing advice for members of the armed forces guide useful.
