Green, low-cost summer holiday activity ideas

Check out our green, low cost activity ideas for the summer holidays. There’s plenty to do in our beautiful corner of the world that doesn’t involve travelling long distances by car.

Visit one of the many parks and green spaces in the district- the majority of Wyre Forest households are in easy reach of at least one of them.

Packing a picnic when you’re going out and about? Try to cut down on waste, for example by using reusable containers and drinks bottles. See Worcestershire Let’s Waste Less  for more tips and ideas on how to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Why not get out and explore one of the many wonderful nature reserves in Wyre Forest. See how many species of plants, butterflies, birds and other wildlife you can identify using the wildlife spotter sheets available from Worcestershire Wildlife Trust or using an app such as Seek by iNaturalist

We are lucky enough to have some beautiful areas to walk in Wyre Forest. Check out details of local walking routes , bring history alive and take a trip around the district’s towns with the Wyre Forest Heritage Trail App or explore our towns and communities with Virtual Orienteering routes from Active Youth Outreach Services.

If you prefer to get on your bike, you might like to try the Wyre Forest Cycle Forum’s new leisure route ideas or work out your own route using the Wyre Forest Cycle Map

Get creative using household or garden items. Try making egg carton creatures, natural tree decorations, a bird feeder or even a bug hotel. For these and lots more ideas visit the Wildlife Watch Website.

We also have a range of children’s crafty activities on offer over the summer holidays at Bewdley Museum, including a week of Garden and Nature Crafts. No need to book, please note there is a £6 charge per activity.
