Cycling routes
The members of the Wyre Forest Cycle Forum have produced a range of leaflets, funded by Wyre Forest District Council, featuring short leisure cycle rides available in the local area. Download the Wyre Forest Cycle routes or request copies by email.
Walking and cycling maps can be downloaded from the Worcestershire County Council website, and show the cycle routes, bridleways, footpaths and cycle parking within the area. To request a free printed copy of the map please email us including your postal address.
The Mercian Way covers part of National Cycle Network Route 45, taking cyclists from the Wyre Forest and through the beautiful Severn Valley to Bridgnorth. The top 20 cycle routes across Worcestershire can be found on komoot website.
Further cycling routes can be found on the Worcestershire County Council website, National Cycle Network, and . Websites such as Cycle Streets - UK-wide cycle journey planner.- can also be used to plan your route anywhere in the UK.
Cycling clubs and organisations
Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club based at Stourport Sports Club, hold club rides, training and social events as well as races.
Kidderminster CTC: a member of Cycling UK, hold regular bike rides.
Severn Valley Velo: offer cycling training for youngsters, family bike rides and ladies only cycling sessions.
Spokes:, part of the Emily Jordan Foundation, employ young adults with learning disabilities to refurbish bikes to sell. They also offer bicycle servicing.
Sustrans: Sustainable transport charity recruits local volunteers to promote cycling and help look after the National Cycle Network.
Free Wyre Forest adult cycle training
Free adult cycle training is available to Wyre Forest residents aged 16+. Training is available for all levels- for complete beginners wanting to learn to ride in a safe off-road environment, for those looking to building their confidence or for more advanced cyclists looking to cycle more on the roads. Worcestershire County Council offers National Standard Bikeability Cycle Training to all schools within the County.
Wyre Forest Cycle Forum
The Wyre Forest Cycle Forum was formed in 1998 to promote cycling within the area. The Forum acts as a facilitator and consultee for all matters relating to cycling. Members work to raise awareness about cycling and to ensure that new infrastructure for cyclists is convenient and safe to use. Members of the Forum include local cyclists, cycling organisations and the local authorities; new members are always welcome.
Recent activities have included:
- Helping develop the Wyre Forest Walking and Cycling Map
- Promoting cycling at local events
- Setting up the Wyre Forest Adult Cycle Training Scheme
- Advising local authorities on improving/ implementing cycling infrastructure (e.g. cycle lanes and junctions)
- Responding to the LTP4 Consultation; once finalised the Forum will be working proactively to help deliver local cycling schemes such as the Bewdley to Wyre Forest active travel route.
