Ranger Service volunteer opportunities
Would you like to become more involved in your local site?
Volunteering offers the opportunity to learn new skills, work outdoors, get active and meet new people from around the area. There are a variety of ways in which to get involved, and you can give as much or little time as you like.
We are turning the former golf course at Burlish Top into a Nature Reserve. You can help us enhance the site and preserve local wildlife and plants by becoming a volunteer!
If you would like to get involved or would like more information on any of the Ranger Service volunteer opportunities please fill out our online form and we'll be in touch.
Do you walk your local reserve every day and enjoy visiting the cattle while on site?
This is an ideal opportunity for you. A Cattle Looker checks that all of the cows are present, and in the correct place, looks for possible signs of ill health, tops up water troughs, checks field fences are secure and drops the rangers an email/text message to keep us updated. This is invaluable to our Grazing Animals Project. While we check all of our animals on a daily basis, it is reassuring to know we have others doing the same.
Nature reserve checker
For other individuals who regularly visit their local reserves, but perhaps would like to be more involved than simply checking cattle. You are our eyes and ears of the Ranger Service. As part of your regular visit around the site, check condition of pathways, litter levels (litter pickers can be provided if you wish), infrastructure checks and potentially dangerous trees. This can also be tied in with the Cattle checkers opportunity.
As a service we run regular conservation days where we carry out practical tasks on the reserves. These range from scrub clearance, pond creation, step building, litter picking, fence repairs. Depending on the length of activity, tea, coffee, biscuits and sometimes lunch are provided. During each work party, we try and offer tasks that suit all abilities and skill levels. Of course, this could be carried out alongside being a Nature Reserve Checker and Cattle Looker.
