About

Redstone Marsh is a 7-hectare (17-acres) Local Nature Reserve that consists of two distinct habitats, effectively divided by a footpath which runs northwest to southeast. The eastern section is characterised by low-lying marshland, wet woodland, and wet meadows. Animals of particular interest found in the marsh habitat include: grass snakes, slow worms, frogs, and toads. Typical flora of this habitat include: marsh marigold, yellow flag iris, and valerian, as well as willow and alder. The marsh is periodically grazed by our Shetland cattle as part of the management objective to enhance the quality of the marshland. The western section consists of a smaller area of dry woodland and scrub.

The dryer scrub and wooded areas of the site are widely used for recreation by local residents; the marshland, however, is largely inaccessible due to its wet nature.
