Half Crown Wood Local Nature Reserve

This small woodland is situated at grid reference S0 80480 70189 (DY13 0EW).

Half Crown Woods is approximately 5 hectares (12 acres) in size. Although reasonably small it has areas of dense woodland as well as patches of grassland with a relatively high biodiversity count. There are stands of indigenous wood made up of oak, beech and various others alongside planted conifers, this adds to the biodiversity of the site. Due to the large wooded area this provides habitat for buzzards and there are many on the site, which use the nearby Redstone Marsh nature reserve as a hunting ground. Half Crown Woods is also home to an active badger sett making it an important refuge for wildlife. It is situated in Stourport, on the Walshes estate and it is only a 5 minute walk away from Redstone Marsh nature reserve.

There are various trails through the woodland areas and the site is used extensively by the school which is adjacent to the nature reserve, it is used for educational purposes and for thoroughfare.
