Kidderminster’s iconic Piano Building hits the right note
News release issued:
The iconic Piano Building on Kidderminster’s Weavers Wharf canal side has been beautifully refurbished and is now open for business!
With 29,000sq. ft of high-quality commercial space, this newly upgraded landmark is ready to welcome new tenants and visitors alike.
The Piano Building was built in 1867 and originally served as Brinton’s wool warehouse. Purchased by Wyre Forest District Council in 2024, the Grade II listed building has been thoughtfully transformed from a former education centre into a vibrant mixed-use space. The building had been unoccupied since 2019.
Thanks to expert work from contractor Speller Metcalfe, it now offers modern office spaces alongside opportunities for food and drink businesses to thrive in the heart of the town.
A brand-new entrance lobby and attractive landscaping have given the building a fresh new look, enhancing its charm and making it even more inviting for both professionals and the public.
Councillor Dan Morehead, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda, said:
"It’s fantastic to see this landmark building ready for its next chapter. These unique, modern workspaces – with beautiful oak floors, large windows, and characterful industrial features – offer something really special. We’re also excited to welcome new hospitality venues here, giving local people and visitors a great new place to meet, eat and enjoy time in the town centre."
Councillor Marcus Hart, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council, added:
"The Piano Building has been given a new lease of life – it’s now a contemporary, welcoming space that still respects its historic character. This transformation supports our wider vision for the town, helping drive Kidderminster’s regeneration and supporting local economic growth. We’re proud to see this important part of our heritage being used in such a positive and forward-looking way."
The project has been funded by the UK government's Levelling Up Fund.
Mark Hudgeon, regional director at Speller Metcalfe, said:
“As a company rooted in the region, we’re incredibly proud to have played a part in bringing new life to the Piano Building - its transformation is a brilliant example of how heritage and modern design can work hand in hand to create a vibrant space for businesses and the community. It’s been a pleasure working alongside Wyre Forest District Council to deliver a project that celebrates the town’s history while supporting its exciting future.”
