New vision for Bridge Street Stourport
News release issued:
New proposals for Bridge Street’s former temporary car park site in Stourport-on-Severn are being considered by us.
The concept is to deliver a redevelopment scheme linking the historic basins to the town centre, improving road safety, enhancing the conservation area and creating new jobs. The goal is to revitalise the area with a sustainable, heritage-led proposal that attracts visitors and businesses, thereby supporting the town’s long-term viability.
Proposals for a single-storey flexible market hall space - as part of the vision for the Bridge Street development - are included in a report outlining the Medium Term Financial Strategy to be discussed by Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet at its meeting on Tuesday, 11 November 2025.
Councillor Dan Morehead, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda, said:
“Our proposed development at Bridge Street reflects the council and community ambition to shape the site’s future and forms part of a broader vision to redevelop the area. It would create a stronger link between Stourport’s town centre and its historic canal basins, supporting tourism and local businesses.
“This proposed development presents a great opportunity for artisan food and drink makers to contribute to an exciting new destination venue for residents and visitors to enjoy. It would feature lots of natural light, with high-end finishes, and a view over the historic basins.
“Our vision is to deliver a high-quality scheme that enhances the town’s unique setting, particularly around the canal basins.”
The proposed development would be funded and progressed by Wyre Forest District Council and is one of three major capital projects being put forward by the council’s Cabinet in its Medium-Term Financial Strategy report to be discussed by cabinet members at the meeting on Tuesday, 11 November 2025.
The pipeline of three major capital projects also includes the Bewdley Museum improvements to the front of the building, which were granted planning permission on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, and the Lion Fields development, for which the council is seeking a joint venture partner to develop 150 dwellings on a prominent town centre site in Kidderminster.
