Everyone welcome as Bewdley Museum opens for business

News release issued:

Bewdley Museum is ready to burst into spring. Staff and volunteers carefully packed the museum away for its winter break, but on Saturday 4 March it’s back and fully open for business!

The museum has been a big part of Wyre Forest heritage and culture since 1972.  A visit is an opportunity to step back into the town’s Georgian history and the area’s industrial past. It’s also a chance to step forward and take part in the museum’s rich calendar of events.

In 2023 there is something for visitors and residents alike. Family friendly events include a production of David Walliams’ Bad Dad, regular children’s craft activities, the annual Cherry Fair and an opportunity to find out what the Wyre Forest Romans got up to. There’s a murder mystery evening, an outdoor theatre production of MacHamLear, paranormal goings on, a ghost walk and an unknown Pre-Raphaelite exhibition to be enjoyed. Bewdley Museum is also joining national celebrations for King Charles III’s Coronation. On Monday 8 May there will be a patriotic performance by Bewdley Concert Band, set in the museum’s beautiful gardens.

The museum’s craftspeople are in action all year round. A small group of artisans produce their wares under the distinct ‘Made in the Museum’ Bewdley, label. The museum is also a popular spot for weddings.

Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Safety, Graham Ballinger said:

“I never fail to be delighted by a visit to our museum. It’s always a place to learn something new but at the same time feel nostalgic and respectful about what the people of Wyre Forest have achieved, often in very tough times. It remains free to visit, so there are plenty of opportunities to come back time and again to enjoy the new exhibitions.”

The Shambles walkthrough, shop and Garden Kitchen café are already open and the events programme can be found on Bewdley Museum's what's on page www.bewdleymuseum.co.uk/exploring/whats-on/.  New events get added throughout the year.
