Celebrate Bewdley Museum’s golden anniversary

Free celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Bewdley Museum are taking place next week.
A packed day of family fun activities have been planned from 10am on Saturday 2 July.
Visitors can enjoy a walk-through history with a display of historical photos showing the museum when it first opened its door in 1972.
When the Bewdley Museum Trust was formed, the trust’s members wanted to create a museum in Bewdley where people could go to see live demonstrations of craft skills.
To mark its golden anniversary, the museum will have demonstrations from the Svartland Vikings who will show what life was like for Vikings in the 9th century. Workshops include coin making, bone carving, leather working and cooking.
A journey through the ages doesn’t stop there with visitors able to see a Bronze Age rapier which was crafted more than 5000 years ago! There will be an opportunity to see how the earliest metal tools were made with a live bronze metal demonstration by Ancient Craft re-enactors, using original techniques.
Guided riverside walks exploring Bewdley’s historic royal connections will also be available to book at £8 per person.

“More than 2,205,000 visitors have visited our museum since 2010. We understand the museum’s importance and are working hard to secure its future. Next Saturday is a great opportunity to mark the museum’s golden anniversary and to thank our visitors and volunteers, without whom the last 50 years would not have been possible. We hope you will join us in celebrating."
