Burlish Camp

The account of Lt. Lillian Krell

Nurse 297th GH.

Lillian was recruited along with most of the Staff of the Cook County Hospital Chicago. She was in charge of a ward block working very long shifts with very little time off. Like the other personnel on this site she is immensely proud of her service in Britain with a deep personal feeling for patients , colleagues and the locals she met around the camp.

The hut was adjacent to the railway line at Burlish. The battered look shows the effects of prior use by troops preparing for D-Day. The uniform seems barely suitable for a Burlish winter.

Greatcoat suggests better winter protection.

The beauty is clear but does the picture also hint at the effects of long tough hours?
