Planning application submitted for Bridge Street site in Stourport

A planning application has been submitted for developing the community venue site which was formerly a car park in Bridge Street, Stourport-on-Severn.
One Creative, on behalf of Wyre Forest District Council, has put forward a design for the multi-purpose community building. The design has evolved in direct response to feedback received through public consultation and stakeholder engagement. The most visible change is the use of red brickwork and a dark grey slate roof, chosen to sit more naturally alongside the listed buildings opposite and the wider historic character of Bridge Street.
The distinctive tooth roofline remains an important part of the design, drawing on the character of historic warehouse and factory buildings and creating a clear link with Stourport’s industrial past. The roof form also allows for a mezzanine level, providing extra flexible space within the building without losing its distinctive character.
Alongside the building, new landscaping, trees, seating, and pedestrian routes will help create a welcoming and attractive place for the community.
Councillor Dan Morehead, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda, said:
“We are pleased with the submission which has been arrived at with a great deal of thought and consideration alongside partners. The design has been developed to support a diverse range of activities throughout the day and across different seasons, creating adaptable spaces that respond to the needs of the wider community. The external and internal spaces are intended to accommodate everyday recreational activities, including informal gatherings, lunch breaks, and group meetings, while also supporting larger community events such as festivals, pop-up food vendors, and outdoor performances.“
