Youngest Chairman sworn in at Wyre Forest District Council

At just 28 years old, a keen darts player and lifelong Kidderminster resident has been sworn in as the youngest Chairman of Wyre Forest District Council.
Councillor George Connolly was elected to the role at the Council’s annual meeting last night (Wednesday 13 May), succeeding outgoing Chairman Councillor Paul Harrison.
Councillor Connolly represents Franche and Habberley North ward on the district council and has served residents there for the past three years. He was elected as Chairman at the meeting held on Wednesday 13 May 2026.
Away from the council chamber, Councillor Connolly is well known locally. He also serves as a town councillor and when he was 27 became the youngest Mayor of Kidderminster. Outside of public life, he is a county‑level darts player and a proud advocate for his hometown.
As Chairman, Councillor Connolly will represent Wyre Forest District Council at events across the district throughout the year, including community celebrations and charity occasions. He will also chair full council meetings and work to raise money for his chosen charity, the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

Councillor Kenneth Henderson, who represents Areley Kings and Riverside, will serve as Vice Chairman for the municipal year.
