Volunteer fair to highlight local opportunities for residents

News release issued:

29 local organisations looking for volunteers will take part in the Kidderminster Job Centre Volunteering Fair on Wednesday 3 June, giving residents the chance to discover how they can make a difference in their community.

The fair has been organised by Wyre Forest District Council, Citizens Advice Wyre Forest and Kidderminster Job Centre. The event is free and takes place from 10am to 12.30pm at Kidderminster Library. It gives people the chance to chat with a wide range of local organisations about volunteering opportunities that fit around their lives — whether they are exploring work experience or simply want to support their community.

Wyre Forest District Council will be at the fair with information about its volunteer litter picking scheme, Adopt a Street, as well as details of how residents can help care for local nature reserves through ranger volunteering opportunities.

Volunteer rangers can get involved in a wide range of outdoor activities, from restoring habitats and learning traditional skills such as hedgelaying to improving footpaths, repairing livestock fences and helping wildlife-rich spaces thrive. The group meets every Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 3pm at a different nature reserve each week.

Councillor Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council’s cabinet member for Culture, Leisure, Arts and Community Safety said:

“Volunteering is a fantastic way to support your community, build confidence and learn new skills, and this fair is the perfect place to discover what could suit you. I would encourage anyone interested in making a positive difference locally to come along to Kidderminster Library on Wednesday 3 June to find out how they can get started.”
