Talbot Park opens: a landmark celebration for Kidderminster
News release issued:
Talbot Park, a vibrant new green space in the heart of Kidderminster, was officially opened to the public on Saturday, 2 May 2026, marking a major milestone in the town’s ongoing transformation.
The much-anticipated opening drew enthusiastic crowds who gathered to celebrate this exciting addition to Worcester Street. The ribbon was ceremonially cut by Councillor Marcus Hart, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council; Councillor Paul Harrison, Chairman of Wyre Forest District Council, and Mrs Jean Talbot, wife of Charles Talbot MBE, in whose honour the park is named.
This thoughtfully designed park, linking Worcester Street with Bromsgrove Street, has been delivered through investment from the Government’s Future High Streets Fund and represents a cornerstone of the Council’s ambitious Kidderminster 2040 vision.
The revitalisation of Worcester Street has created a welcoming and dynamic community space, complete with elegant, winding steps connecting to Bromsgrove Street car park, a lively children’s play area, and generous seating for relaxation and socialising. The transformation follows the successful redevelopment of the former site, once home to several well-known retail units, into a modern and inviting urban green space.
Councillor Marcus Hart, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council, said:
“This is a truly proud and exciting moment for Kidderminster. Talbot Park is a shining example of our commitment to revitalising the town centre, creating an attractive, accessible space that will inspire further investment, encourage visitors, and support local businesses. It’s a place where the community can come together and where the future of the town centre Kidderminster feels more exciting than ever.”
Councillor Dan Morehead, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda, added:
“Talbot Park is designed for everyone. Whether it’s families enjoying the play area, workers taking a break outdoors, or residents and visitors meeting in a welcoming central space, this park will quickly become a valued part of daily life. It also improves connectivity across the town centre, linking key areas and supporting the exciting developments still to come.”
Stuart MacKenzie, Director of McPhillips who carried out the transformative works, said:
"It's been a real privilege to work on this connectivity scheme that will make such a lasting difference to Kidderminster town centre. Our team put a lot of care and effort into delivering a space that the local community can be proud of, and seeing Talbot Park open to the public makes it all worthwhile.
"Projects like this don't happen without great teamwork, and we're proud to have worked alongside Wyre Forest District Council, Arcadis, ARES and McBains to bring this vision to life. Beyond the physical construction, the social value delivered through this project has been really important to us - from supporting local employment to inviting Sutton Park Primary School children to plant daffodil bulbs - and that's something we're just as proud of as the finished park. We hope residents and visitors enjoy this fantastic new green space for many years to come."
Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore Talbot Park and experience this new green space at the heart of Kidderminster.
