Cabinet membership change

News release issued:

Wyre Forest District Council has today (Wednesday 13 May) confirmed a change to its Cabinet, following the retirement of Councillor Ian Hardiman from his role as member for Culture, Leisure, Arts and Community Safety.

Councillor Hardiman has stepped down from the Cabinet with immediate effect. The Council’s AGM tonight is being invited to appoint him as Chair of the Licensing Committee, continuing his long-standing service to the district in a key leadership role. Councillor Hardiman has chaired the Worcestershire Regulatory Services Board since the autumn and will continue as a member of that Board if appointed as Chairman of the Licensing Committee.

Councillor Marcus Hart, The Leader of the Council, paid tribute to Councillor Hardiman’s contribution:

“I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to Councillor Hardiman for his outstanding service on the Cabinet, including many years’ service as my Deputy Leader. He has held a number of demanding portfolios over the years and has always brought commitment, experience and sound judgement to the role. I am pleased that the Council is being asked to support his continuing to play an important part in the council as Chair of the Licensing Committee, where his knowledge will be invaluable.”

The Leader also confirmed the appointment of Councillor Tracey Onslow to the Cabinet. Councillor Onslow will take over as the Cabinet member with responsibility for Culture, Leisure, Arts and Community Safety. She has previously served on the Cabinet in this role and returns with considerable experience.

Councillor Hart added:

“Councillor Onslow brings a strong understanding of the role and a proven track record of delivery as well as a bucket load of energy! It’s great to have her back in the Cabinet and I know she will make an immediate and positive contribution.”

Councillor Tracey Onslow said:

“It’s an exciting time to be returning to the Cabinet. The Brinton Park project is in full swing, we’ve just opened the new Talbot Park and we are planning our Music in the Park events. It’s a big job but one I’m very much looking forward to taking on again.”
