Piano Building shortlisted for prestigious RICS Award

The Piano Building in Kidderminster has been shortlisted for a prestigious regional award in recognition of its recent regeneration.
The building has been named on the West Midlands regional shortlist in the Refurbishment/Revitalisation category at the 2026 RICS UK Awards. These awards celebrate the UK’s most impactful built environment projects and the organisations delivering lasting change within their communities.
A Grade II listed former carpet factory, The Piano Building takes its name from its distinctive grand piano shape when viewed from above. The building also lived as an education centre, before undergoing a major transformation to now offer vibrant office and food and beverage space designed for modern ways of working and collaboration.
The refurbishment works were carried out by Speller Metcalfe on behalf of Wyre Forest District Council and were completed in late 2025.
The nomination highlights the scale of investment and regeneration taking place across Kidderminster town centre. Kidderminster Town Council’s Kidderminster Town Hall project has also been shortlisted in the same category.
Councillor Dan Morehead, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda, said:

It demonstrates our commitment to investing in Kidderminster town centre and creating spaces that will support economic growth for years to come.”
Both The Piano Building and Kidderminster Town Hall projects benefitted from funding through the Levelling Up Fund.
The RICS West Midlands Regional Awards ceremony takes place on Friday 26 June 2026. Regional winners will then progress to the national UK Grand Final on Thursday 22 October 2026.
