Local football pitches may be on the transfer list!
News release issued:
The future of local community football pitches in two parks is potentially going to be secured thanks to present owner, Wyre Forest District Council transferring them to the Worcestershire Football Association (WFA).
At its next meeting on Thursday 9 July, the Cabinet will be asked to agree the principle of leasing Brown Westhead Park and Habberley Road Sports Field to WFA, and to set out the next steps for negotiation and completion of the transaction.
The Cabinet will be asked to agree the principle of a long leasehold disposal which would provide the WFA with long-term security of tenure, empower them to access external funding and secure the continued use of the sites for community sport provision.
Councillor David Ross, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance and Capital Portfolio at Wyre Forest District Council said,
“Worcestershire Football Association (WFA), through its subsidiary WFA Sports Facilities Ltd, has occupied and managed Brown Westhead Park and Habberley Road Sports Field since 2014 under informal lease arrangements.
“Brown Westhead Park is identified as a key site for grassroots football investment and is supported by the Football Foundation. Significant funding has been secured (over £1.6m) to support improvements, including development of artificial pitches and associated infrastructure. The WFA has advised they intend to invest further in the site which is very positive for the future of football in local community. If approved by Cabinet, the next steps would be to work with Worcestershire FA to progress this proposal.”
The Cabinet meeting can be watched from 6pm on Thursday 9 July on the website.
