Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Gardens receives Green Flag Award
News release issued:
Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Gardens in Bewdley, has been recognised as one of the best parks and green spaces in the country after receiving a Green Flag Award.
Wyre Forest District Council is celebrating the award, which is the internationally recognised standard for well-managed parks and green spaces. The Green Flag Award scheme is marking its 30th year in 2026.
The gardens are among a record-breaking 2,391 sites across the UK to achieve the award this year. The award recognises the hard work, care and dedication that goes into maintaining the gardens to a high standard for residents and visitors to enjoy.
The gardens, which are located behind Bewdley Museum, include ornamental fish ponds, an orchard area, a ‘Green Theatre’ and an inclusive play area. The park is also enclosed by old listed walls, adding to its character and heritage setting.
Councillor Nathan Desmond, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Operational Services said:
“The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Gardens is a valued green space in the heart of Bewdley, so it is fantastic to see it recognised with a Green Flag Award. This achievement reflects the dedication of everyone involved in caring for the gardens and maintaining them to such a high standard, including the volunteers whose hard work in the gardens has been recognised by this award. We are extremely grateful for their ongoing support and thank them for all their hard work. Quality parks and open spaces play an important role in supporting wellbeing, and we are proud to provide places that residents and visitors can enjoy throughout the year.”
Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said:
“Parks are essential public spaces that support our wellbeing, our communities and our economy. Yet for millions of people, particularly in the most deprived areas, local parks simply don’t feel safe or welcoming.
“With public services under pressure, investing in parks is not a luxury, it’s a practical, preventative solution and one of the most visible ways to improve people’s quality of life.
“Wyre Forest District Council has shown what can be achieved when parks are properly supported and managed. As we celebrate 30 years of the Green Flag Award, we want every community to have access to green spaces like this that are safe, welcoming and maintained to a high standard.
"Congratulations to everyone involved."
The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under contract from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government. It recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces and sets the benchmark standard for green space management across the UK and around the world.
