Stourport Town Council is proud to publish its ' Vision for the Future’
News release issued:
More than 1100 people have helped shape an exciting new vision for the future of Stourport-on-Severn – and now it's been formally backed by Wyre Forest District Council.
Stourport’s new Vision for the Future, sets out how the town could look and feel over the next decade, balancing ambition with consideration and respect for what makes Stourport special.
At its heart is a simple idea. Stourport should be the best it can be – a vibrant, welcoming place that celebrates its unique rivers, canals and industrial heritage while adapting to meet modern needs.
The vision emerged from comprehensive community consultations carried out in the town during 2025, with residents, businesses and visitors contributing over 12,000 comments through surveys, face-to-face meetings and workshops.
People told the Town Council they love the town’s waterways, green spaces, heritage and strong community spirit. They want to see these protected and celebrated.
They also identified clear priorities for improvement – tackling traffic congestion, upgrading infrastructure, bringing more variety to the town centre, and improving public facilities.
The vision responds to both, setting out an ambition for Stourport to become:
- A vibrant, attractive and tranquil town that welcomes residents, visitors and businesses
- A distinctive destination recognised as a great place to visit with something for everyone
- A place of choice for living and working, embracing both home working and commuter needs
- A leading heritage destination celebrating its unique waterways and industrial past
Councillor Jackie Griffiths Chair of the cross party Stourport Future Working Group from Stourport Town Council, said
"This vision belongs to our community. It's rooted in what local people told us matters most to them – protecting our special character while making sure we adapt and thrive. We've listened to over 1,100 voices, and what's emerged is both practical and ambitious. This is about strengthening our town centre, improving quality of life, and guiding future development in a way that respects Stourport’s character and heritage.
“This isn't just a document – it captures and celebrates Stourport’s waterways, green spaces and heritage, and provides a roadmap for real meaningful change to inform decisions on investment, regeneration and development by Stourport Town Council, Wyre Forest District Council, Worcestershire County Council and partner organisations.”
Councillor Dan Morehead, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda for Wyre Forest District Council, said
"We're proud to back this vision. It aligns perfectly with our commitment to working in partnership on regeneration in Stourport and progressing key development opportunities like Bridge Street.”
A Vision Delivery Steering Group is being set up to include representatives from the district and county councils to turn ambition into action, working on practical projects as funding and resources become available. Stourport Town Council will lead on areas within its influence, working closely with district and county councils, community groups and local organisations to deliver change that makes a real difference.
