Nominations open for No Barriers – the Mike Oborski Awards 2026
News release issued:
Nominations are now open for this year’s No Barriers – the Mike Oborski Awards, Wyre Forest District Council’s celebration of individuals, businesses, and organisations that go the extra mile to make our district more accessible and inclusive.
The long‑running awards recognise those who have made a significant contribution to improving access, services, or employment opportunities for people with disabilities. They also highlight positive action taken to consider the wider needs of the community, including initiatives that support parents with young children and other groups who may face barriers in day‑to‑day life.
Councillor Fran Oborski, Chair of the Awards Panel, said:
“Every year, we are inspired by the compassion and creativity shown by people across Wyre Forest who work hard to remove barriers for others. Their efforts - whether large or small - help make our district a fairer and more welcoming place for everyone.
I would really encourage residents to put forward those individuals, organisations, or businesses who deserve recognition. These awards shine a light on the people who quietly make a real difference in our community.”
The No Barriers Awards were first held in 2008 in memory of Councillor Mike Oborski, former Polish Honorary Consul for the West Midlands, who launched the initiative after being inspired by a similar scheme in Gdynia, Poland.
Nominations open on Thursday, 12 February and close on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
They can be submitted online. Nomination forms can also be collected from The Hub, Green Street, Kidderminster, or from the reception desk at Wyre Forest House, Finepoint Way, Kidderminster.
The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, 16 April 2026, at Wyre Forest House.
