Have your say on exciting new plans for Bridge Street, Stourport-on-Severn
News release issued:
Wyre Forest District Council is inviting residents, businesses and visitors to help define the look and feel of Bridge Street by viewing and commenting on new proposals for the site at 8 Bridge Street, Stourport-on-Severn.
The site, most recently used as a temporary car park, has long been recognised as a key opportunity to reconnect the town centre with the historic canal basin.
Councillor Dan Morehead, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda, said:
“We’re delighted to be able to share new ideas for this important site in the heart of the town centre. We’d really encourage people to come along, see the plans for themselves, and talk to the team who are helping to bring this vision to life. Thoughtful redevelopment at Bridge Street will play an important role in supporting the ongoing regeneration of the surrounding area and enhancing Stourport’s unique character.”
The future of Bridge Street has been carefully considered over many years. In 2005, the Council adopted the Bridge Street Basins Link Development Brief as a Supplementary Planning Document, setting out a broad vision for the wider area. Despite several attempts to secure a development partner, progress was limited due to viability challenges at the time.
The site was listed as an Asset of Community Value in December 2024 following a nomination by Stourport Civic Society, however no bids were received within the statutory period.
In 2025, the Council formally rescinded the document as it no longer reflected current economic, policy and market conditions
The Council is now working with local architects One Creative Environments to explore new, realistic options for the site that respond to today’s needs and opportunities.
Councillor Morehead added: “Our aim is to create an attractive and welcoming place that draws people in, supports local businesses, and helps deliver the long-term aspirations for Stourport-on-Severn. We have already shared these plans with Stourport Town Council and The Civic Society as part of our commitment to working in partnership to deliver a scheme that everyone can be proud of.”
The public consultation will take place at The Civic Hall, Martins Way, Stourport on Saturday, 28 February, between 10am and 1pm.
