Recycling service includes more items

News release issued:

Wyre Forest residents can now recycle even more from home. From April they will be able to put aluminium foil (e.g. kitchen foil and foil trays) and plastic tubes (e.g. empty toothpaste and cosmetic tubes) in their green bin.

These items will be collected with the usual things which can already be recycled in the kerbside collection scheme, such as paper, card, glass jars and bottles, cartons, tins, cans, empty aerosols, and plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays.

The changes are part of the Government’s Simpler Recycling plan, which aims to make recycling more consistent across England. This will make it easier for everyone to know what goes where and help boost recycling rates.

Residents are asked to make sure all recycling is clean and empty. Bins should be out by 6am on residents’ normal collection day.

Everything collected from green bins is sorted at Worcestershire County Council’s recycling facility near Norton. The materials are then cleaned and turned into new products. Recycling these items saves energy, conserves natural resources and helps keep valuable materials out of landfill

Councillor Nathan Desmond, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet member for Operational Services said:
“We’re pleased to be able to recycle even more everyday items in the kerbside scheme. This will make recycling simpler for everyone and help us cut down on waste across the district and boost recycling rates.

He added:

“Please only put things in the green bin which are on the recycling list. Increasingly we are finding items like food waste, nappies, tissues and wipes in the green bins. These cannot be recycled in the green bin. Anyone who is not sure which items go in which bin can check on our website."

Wyre Forest District Council also offers services for garden waste, bulky waste and business waste. To find out more, visit the council's dedicated webpage
