News release issued:

The new temporary accommodation building on Castle Road Kidderminster, Millpond House, has been shortlisted in the "Delivering Value" and "Residential Property of the Year" categories in the Construction Excellence West Midlands Awards 2025.

Millpond House, developed by Wyre Forest District Council with partners, was officially opened on 26 February 2025. It provides temporary accommodation for people while the council works with them to secure a more permanent housing solution.

The project consists of 20 ensuite rooms, shared kitchen diners, lounge areas and outdoor communal spaces. Additional facilities include office spaces and on-site parking, with extensive landscaping to enhance the environment for residents and staff.

Kate Bailey, Head of Strategic Growth at Wyre Forest District Council said,

“We are really delighted to be shortlisted for two awards at the Construction Excellence West Midlands Awards. It is very rewarding for everyone involved in this project to see their work recognised for the positive impact that Millpond House will make on our community. The awards are the biggest and brightest celebration of best practice. They recognise commitment to deliver buildings, housing, infrastructure, and facilities of all kinds in a collaborative and sustainable manner.”

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday 1 May 2025.

Construction Excellence West Midlands Awards categories for which Millpond House has been shortlisted:

Residential Property of the Year

The Project of the Year category celebrates inspirational projects that deliver outstanding outcomes. We are looking for projects that exemplify the Constructing Excellence principles, which fully align with the collaborative work we are undertaking with the Construction Leadership Council. Projects must demonstrate the successful implementation of better ways of working and so help to provide a template for others to learn from.

Delivering Value Award

Construction and the built environment play a huge role in underpinning our society and economy. To unlock better societal outcomes, we need to take an informed view of value and not simply make decisions based on cost. Clients need to work with their stakeholders to consider how to unlock wider benefits throughout the construction project and the lifetime of the asset. Tools such as the Value Toolkit enable clients and design teams to take a more informed view of value across four capitals - Produced, Natural, Social and Human. Whilst value can mean something different to everyone, what it shouldn’t be is solely focused on cost. We are seeking projects that clearly demonstrate value-based decision making and the benefits in can bring.
