Kidderminster’s new business hub opens its doors as ‘The Old Court’
News release issued:
The transformation of the Old Court in Kidderminster town centre is now complete, and the building will be opening for business in the next few weeks. The regeneration of the former Magistrates’ Court by Wyre Forest District Council has been possible thanks to funding through the Future High Streets Fund (FHSF) – the former government’s funding initiative to transform struggling high streets – and the Council’s own funding.
Councillor Dan Morehead, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda said “It’s very exciting to see the building transformed to retain its heritage feel with all the modern amenities making it fit for the future. Our intention is that local and regional businesses and organisations will welcome the addition of this high quality facility in the middle of town. The redevelopment of this site provides a critical element for the long-term vision by supporting Kidderminster’s economic and technological offer - a home for creative and digital industries - helping to drive growth and contribute to future sustainability.”
Councillor Marcus Hart, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council said “This transformation will play a key role in renewing and reshaping Kidderminster town centre, developing a highly visible gateway building whilst re-purposing a significant historic asset. The outside public space has also been enhanced, helping to define the town centre’s identity and provide direction for a pedestrian route through town.
More than 70 local business leaders, partners and councillors celebrated the launch of the Old Court on Thursday 30 January.
Invited guests at the launch event were given a tour of the newly restored building and listened to presentations about the transformation as part of the regeneration of Kidderminster. Speakers included Councillor Marcus Hart, and Councillor Dan Morehead. Local MP Mark Garnier talked about the Future High Streets Fund from the government funding perspective. There was also a presentation on the exciting future of Digital Tech in Wyre Forest by Jenny Long, Chair of ReWyre Board and Vice Chair of the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), and local business leader.
A creative highlight of the event was a presentation by Gleeds, global property and construction company, on ‘digital twinning’. Gleeds have developed a pilot digital tool showing how the latest AI technology be can integrated into estate management for the future.
