Chairman to raise flag for VE Day 80

A special flag flying and proclamations ceremony in honour of VE Day 80 will be taking place at Wyre Forest District Council’s headquarters on Thursday 8 May.

Members of the public are invited to attend the event, which will take place outside Wyre Forest House, Finepoint Way, Kidderminster. The ceremony will start with a formal welcome from Chairman of Wyre Forest District Council, Councillor John Byng, at 9.45am.

VE Day 80 is a celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day which marked the end of the war in Europe and WWII on 8 May 1945. It is a chance to pay tribute to the millions of people across the UK and Commonwealth who served in the Second World War.

Refreshments will be available after the event in Wyre Forest House reception.

Chairman of Wyre Forest District Council, Councillor John Byng said,

“It is a great honour to be raising the flag for the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Everyone is welcome to join us in commemorating this incredibly important date in our history.”

More VE Day 80 events will be taking place in Kidderminster, Stourport-on-Severn and Bewdley on Thursday 8 May. Events have been organised by the town councils, supported by grant funding from Wyre Forest District Council. Full details can be found on the Council’s What’s On webpage.
