Electric Vehicle charge points are coming to Wyre Forest
News release issued:
Work to install electric vehicle charging points in Wyre Forest District Council car parks is due to get underway this month. The installation of EV charging points is part of the Council’s Climate Action and Carbon Reduction Plan.
The chargers will be installed by Flowbird Smart City UK and Opcharge UK at no cost to the Council. Flowbird will also pay the Council a fee which is linked to the number and types of chargers installed.
From early July, charger installations will be taking place at car parks in Kidderminster and Stourport. This includes Green Street (Aldi), Vale Road, Green Street Depot (including the public car park that is used by residents using the Hub) and Raven Street car parks.
The work will take approximately 12 weeks to complete. The car parks will remain open to the public during this time, although some parking bays may be temporarily cordoned off.
Ian Miller, Chief Executive of Wyre Forest District Council said,
“We are pleased to confirm when the first installations will take place. Installing EV chargers in car parks in all three towns is one of the Council’s priorities in its corporate plan. We will announce the next phase of installations later in the year.
Installations in our most popular car parks in Bewdley and Stourport will take place in the autumn. This is so we can avoid disruption for residents and visitors over the busy summer months.”
Thomas Herbert, Managing Director at Opcharge UK said,
“Opcharge UK and Flowbird are proud to be part of the exciting plans to bring more EV charging points to Wyre Forest. The introduction of a renewable energy powered electric vehicle charging network across the district will kickstart the move to zero carbon emission transportation for residents. It also sets a positive example to other regions on how they can take the steps forward too.”
