Celebrations for Love Parks Week

News release issued:

Later this month, hundreds of local authorities across the country - including Wyre Forest District Council – will be taking part in Love Parks Week 2024.

Love Parks week is an annual campaign run by Keep Britain Tidy. The celebration will take place from Friday 26 July to Sunday 4 August, bringing together local authorities, green space managers, landowners, residents and community organisations to celebrate the fantastic green spaces across the country.

Wyre Forest District Council’s Parks and Green Spaces team is responsible for the development, management and protection of more than 600 acres of public green space within the district. This includes routine maintenance.

A range of free events will be taking place in Council owned parks during Love Parks Week and throughout the summer. This includes activities for children and families organised by The Kidderminster and District Youth Trust (KDYT), Music in the Park and Park Yoga.

Whether you want to enjoy a gentle walk, meet friends for a picnic, or just enjoy the weather in a pleasant environment, the parks within the district offer something for everyone.

Councillor Ben Brookes, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Operational Services said,

“We are lucky to have so many beautiful green spaces on our doorstep here in the Wyre Forest, and we’d like to celebrate them.

“Over recent months, we’ve made improvements including a new soft surface within the toddler’s play area at Brinton Park and new inclusive equipment for children at Springfield Park.

“We also continue to organise events for all to enjoy as part of our ongoing efforts to improve our open spaces.

“Our hard-working Parks team and brilliant volunteers make sure that our open spaces are maintained to a high standard.”

Keep Britain Tidy is a leading environmental charity that cares for the environment on your doorstep. The charity works to improve the quality of parks and green spaces, eliminate littering and reduce waste.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said,

“Keep Britain Tidy’s Love Parks campaign is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate, appreciate and recognise the value of their park and green space. To talk about what that green space means for them and their communities. Parks improve our health and wellbeing, and we want everyone to hear that message so that during this week of putting the spotlight on our precious parks people who may not think parks are for them, give their local space a visit.

“The Love Parks campaign would not be possible without the backing of our local authority partners, including Wyre Forest District Council, park professionals and landowners.”
