Artwork unveiled at short-term accommodation development

Artwork created by young people from Wyre Forest has been displayed around a new short-term accommodation development site in Kidderminster.
On Thursday 1 August, the young artists attended an event to unveil their artwork which have been placed on the external hoardings surrounding the construction site on Castle Road.
Young people working with local charity Wyre Forest and South Worcestershire Nightstop and Mediation Service, alongside youngsters from training provider Nova, were asked to create designs to demonstrate what having secure accommodation means to them.
The art project was part of a social values programme that was organised by Wyre Forest District Council and its partners on the development. The social values programme will continue throughout the build to provide opportunities for education and skills development, as well as help with interview tips and CV writing.
When built, the new facility will provide temporary accommodation for people while the council works with them to secure a more permanent home.
Councillor Ian Hardiman, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Housing, Health and Wellbeing said:
“The young people have designed some great artwork which adds colour and creativity to the perimeter of the Castle Road development. I was honoured to congratulate them and present certificates to commemorate their work.
“It was great to see the artwork unveiled but most importantly, it carries real meaning for lots of young people in Wyre Forest and beyond.
“Once complete, the development will become an important place within our community. It gives individuals a secure place to stay while we provide the right support that can help them move into permanent accommodation.”
The development is being carried out by Stepnell and Hive Projects. Construction is ongoing with brick work now progressing to the first storey. The development is on track for completion in Spring 2025.
