District and Parish Council election candidates announced

News release issued:

There are more than two hundred and twenty candidates standing in the local elections taking place in the Wyre Forest district on Thursday 4 May 2023.

All 33 seats are up for election on Wyre Forest District Council, which are being contested by a total of 99 candidates. There are also contested elections for Bewdley Town Council and four of the six wards on Stourport-on-Severn Town Council. All other parish council elections are uncontested and candidates for seats on those parish councils, including two wards in Stourport-on-Severn, will automatically be elected.

Kidderminster Town Council elections will take place in May 2024.

More information about the candidates and the election can be found in the Upcoming Elections section of the council's website.

There is still time for people living in the district to register to vote, if they have not already done so. It is quick and easy to register online. The deadline is midnight on Monday 17 April.  Anyone without access to the internet can get a paper copy of the registration form from the Customer Service Centre at The Hub, Green Street, Kidderminster.

Voters can also vote by post or appoint a proxy. Anyone can apply for a postal vote which allows voters much greater flexibility about when they complete their ballot paper.  Anyone not already registered for a postal or proxy vote will need to complete an application form, which is available from our voting information webpage. The deadline for new postal voting applications is 5.00pm on Tuesday 18 April. The deadline for appointing a proxy to vote on your behalf is 5.00pm on Tuesday 25 April.

Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm on Thursday 4 May. Anyone voting in person will require photo ID to prove their identity, and this also applies to a proxy voting on behalf of another person. Details of eligible photo ID can be found on the voter ID webpage.

You can apply for photo ID (called a “Voter Authority Certificate”) if you do not have any eligible photo ID, but this must be done by 5pm Tuesday 25 April 2023.

The count will be held on Friday 5 May, with all results expected to be announced by early evening on that day.
