Wyre Forest Food Bank gets a little help from Wyre Forest District Council

News release issued:

A food bank which was struggling to cope with the increased amounts of recycling it is generating has received help from Wyre Forest District Council.

Wyre Forest Food Bank is run by Franche Community Church with the help of many volunteers. It has had an increase in demand for its services since the summer. This has meant a growth in the amount of packaging it had been dealing with. The team of volunteers were regularly finding that two green recycling bins were not enough to take all their cardboard and recyclable packaging. The council’s commercial services team stepped in to help by providing a large business recycling bin.

Barbara Guille, Head of Admin at Franche Community Church said:

“We were extremely delighted and very grateful for the support we have received from the council and many of our local councillors. We never expected such a generous offer of support from the team who have arranged this bin and its collection for us.”

In October alone this year France Food Bank provided food support to 177 households and made 462 deliveries. They have only been able to do this due to the financial support they are receiving from local businesses, income from the Lottery Community Fund, grants from the council and support from many individuals. They have seen the number of physical donations fall, due to the increased cost of living crisis.

Councillor John Thomas, Cabinet Member for Operational Services, said:

“The work the food bank and its volunteers do is essential to our local community. It is great to see our business waste team working with Wyre Forest Food Bank to provide support during these difficult times.”
