Community groups invited to apply for Platinum Jubilee grant to celebrate The Queen’s 70-year reign

News release issued:

Grants are available to community groups making plans to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate 70 years of service.

Community groups can apply for grants of up to £500 to support the running of Jubilee Community events in a Covid safe way.

Celebrations are being held across the country during a four-day bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Helen Dyke said: “The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee gives us the opportunity to reconnect with our friends, family and neighbours by coming together and celebrating the historic 70-year reign.

“We are pleased to say we are making limited funding available to help fund Platinum Jubilee community events, street parties and celebrations across the district.

“Local groups can apply for up to £500 to help fund their project or activities and I encourage communities to get in touch with their town or parish council, local charities and community groups to get involved.

“Your plans will need to include ways to help the community recover from the pandemic. For example, you could use the grant to hold a community lunch or street party outside. It could also pay for more cleaning and sanitation.

“Applications for Platinum Jubilee grants close at 5pm on Friday 25 March 2022. To find out more, including how to apply, visit our Platinum Jubilee information page.”
