Cherry Fair and 1940s weekend

Bewdley’s annual celebration of all things cherry will be held at Bewdley Museum on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 July.
The town’s annual Cherry Fair – which will also have a 1940s theme – is organised by Wyre Forest District Council in conjunction with Bewdley Civic Society.
Visitors are in for a real treat, with lots of different delicious varieties of cherries to sample – and there will also be a range of cherry trees and fruit to take home.
The tasty extravaganza kicks off at 10am with entertainment going on throughout the day until 4pm.
During the day Bewdley Civic Society will give a talk about the history of Bewdley’s famous cherry orchards and the many varieties of cherries that were grown.
There will be a real 1940s feel to the day with classic cars, vintage stalls and 1940s music.
On Saturday there will be a live music performance from Kevin Mack from 1pm to 3pm. He will perform numbers by Frank Sinatra, Glen Miller and other 30s and 40s classics. The day after Wyre Forest Big Band will be performing from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
Visitors will also be able to browse the museum’s gift shop for that perfect gift and visit our Made in The Museum Craft units all within the museum grounds. And throughout the day there will be plenty of opportunities to sit back and relax in the Shambles café for a bite of lunch and a glass of your favourite tipple!
Councillor Graham Ballinger, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Safety said:
“Bewdley has been famous for its cherry fairs for almost two centuries and over the weekend of Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 July all things cherry will be celebrated once again. This event is free to enter and is a great opportunity to celebrate the history of the town.
“In respect to the terrible conflict in Ukraine, we have decided against any soldier re-enactments, war vehicles, soldiers in uniform or any connection to war. Instead, we are encouraging people to dress in 40s fashion and to come along and enjoy the music and dancing in the gardens.”
