New Love Where You Live Unsung Hero Awards

News release issued:

Local heroes are being celebrated next week at a new community event.

The Love Where You Live Unsung Hero Awards were set up by St Peter’s Church team and the Radcliffe Arms, Meredith Green Kidderminster. They asked locals in Birchen Coppice, Rifle Range and Silverwoods areas to nominate local people for new awards. They wanted to hear from locals who had gone above and beyond for their community.

Love Where You Live is a community project which is being supported by Wyre Forest District Council. The idea is to help build and grow the community spirit. It is about empowering residents to look after and improve the area where they live, by being the eyes and ears of your community. The project has been made possible by working with St. Peter's Church, local businesses and residents, schools, Community Builders, Youth Organisations, DIAL, Community Police, Wyre Forest Foodshare, volunteer litter pickers and more!

The awards will be given out at the Christmas Carol Service at the Radcliffe Arms on Wednesday 14 December at 7pm. Pub landlords Jean and Red run the community pub and have helped organised the ceremony. The couple are central to the community and helped to support local residents throughout the pandemic.

Tim ‘Red’ Setter said:

“We really do love where we live and try to do as much as we can to help the community, but we don’t do this alone. There are so many people out there who get stuck in and assist and often their efforts don’t get recognised, that’s why we wanted to run these awards and celebrate the great work being done.”

Councillor Nicky Martin, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Housing, Health, Wellbeing and Democratic Services said:

“It is wonderful that the community in this area have organised these awards as part of the Love Where You Live project. We hope they have a great time celebrating all they have achieved.”
