Further opportunity to see plans for the Former Magistrates Court

News release issued:

News from North Worcestershire Economic Developement Regeneration

Residents and businesses are invited to a public exhibition of the proposed plans for the former Magistrates Court in Kidderminster.

On Thursday 21 October, Council officers and representatives from architects Burrell Foley Fischer will be on hand for informal discussions on the proposed plans and display boards for the proposed transformation.

The temporary exhibition will be staged in the foyer at Kidderminster Town Hall from 2pm to 5pm.

The public exhibition will provide a further opportunity for local people and interested visitors to see and discuss plans that are detailed in the planning application which has recently been submitted to Wyre Forest District Council.

Architects Burrell Foley Fischer, working in consultation with NWedR on behalf of Wyre Forest District Council have submitted the application which will transform the Former Magistrates Court building in Worcester Street, Kidderminster town centre.

Plans for the site transform the space into a cultural and creative hub. The space provides a range of flexible work, performance and production spaces and co-working areas in the main buildings and historic former weaving sheds.

Councillor Helen Dyke, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council said

“This is an additional public exhibition for the Former Magistrates Court plans as we know the torrential rain at our event in October at the Coronation Gardens put some people off attending. We invite anyone interested in this transformation project to come along to the foyer at the Town Hall (where the Council’s customer Service Hub used to be) and see what is being proposed.”

The development of this site is being made possible through The Future High Streets Fund (FHSF) – the Government funding initiative to transform struggling high streets. Kidderminster has been awarded £20.5 million from this fund and there are three major projects underway which are all part of the long-term vision for the town.  The intention is to improve connectivity across town and redevelop key sites which are the former Crown House/Bullring area, Worcester Street and the Former Magistrates Court.

Aidan Ridyard from Burrell Foley Fischer said

“We look forward to meeting local people and hearing their views. BFF are privileged to be working on this project which will create a unique public building, opening up the previously hidden spaces behind the 1879 façade of the original carpet factory, as a new home for the creative industries in Kidderminster and a new hub for the community.”

It is anticipated that this application will be considered by the Planning Committee by the end of the year.
