By-election candidates announced

News release issued:

The candidates have been announced for the by-election taking place later this month to fill a vacancy on Wyre Forest District Council.

The by-election for the Franche and Habberley North ward is taking place on Tuesday 30 November.

There are four candidates standing for election: Doug Hine (Independent), Nigel Knowles (Labour Party), David Ross (Conservative Party) and Oliver Walker (Liberal Democrats).

More information about the candidates and the election can be found in the Upcoming Elections section of the council’s website www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/elections .

There is still time for people living in the ward to register to vote, if they have not already done so. The deadline is midnight on Friday 12 November.

It is quick and easy to register online by visiting www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.  Anyone without access to the internet can get a paper copy of the registration form from The Hub at Green Street in Kidderminster.

Voters can also vote by post or proxy. Anyone can apply for a postal vote which allows voters much greater flexibility about when they complete their ballot paper.  Anyone not already registered for a postal or proxy vote will need to complete an application form, which is available from www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/voting.  The deadline for new postal voting requests is 5.00pm on Monday 15 November 2021.  For proxy votes it is 5pm on Monday 22 November 2021.

Details of the polling stations will be printed on the poll cards delivered to all registered electors. Franche Community Church is not being used as a polling station at this election. Voters who would normally cast their vote there should use the Community Centre, Willow Court, Wilton Avenue instead. Voters are encouraged to wear face coverings in polling stations and bring their own pen or pencil.

The polls will be open from 7am until 10pm.

The count will be held in the Council Chamber at Wyre Forest House, starting at 10pm on Tuesday 30 November.  This will be webcast and will be available from www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/streaming
