Energy grant scheme boosted by potential for further funding

More low-income families can apply for a grant to make their homes more energy efficient after Wyre Forest District Council received confirmation to extend its scheme until June and apply for further funding.
The council’s scheme began in November 2020 and aims to help families by paying for the fitting of loft insulation, draught proofing and high heat retention storage heaters. Residents are eligible for the scheme if they have a combined household income of no more than £30,000 and live in low Energy Performance Certificate properties (band rating D,E, F or G). The maximum amount people can apply for is £10,000.
Councillor Nicky Martin, Cabinet Member for Housing, Health, Wellbeing and Democratic Services said: “Our energy grants scheme enables low-income families to live in more energy efficient homes.
“We are delighted the Government has agreed to extend the current scheme and given us the opportunity to bid for further funding by 24 May to enable us to continue the scheme and help those who need it most. The council has been advised it can bid for a further £525,000 for grants as part of the Government’s Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery Scheme. This will enable the council to extend it scheme which is helping residents improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
