Stourport paddling pool to reopen

News release issued:

The paddling pool at Riverside Meadows, Stourport-on-Severn is reopening tomorrow.

Essential maintenance work is due to be completed in time for it to open on Tuesday 3 August 2021.

In July, Wyre Forest District Council transferred ownership of the paddling pool to Stourport Town Council.

The transfer is part of the district council’s localism initiative which gives Town and Parish councils and community organisations the opportunity to have a more significant role in the way local services are delivered.

Councillor Helen Dyke, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and Localism said:

“We are delighted with the successful transfer of Riverside Paddling Pool to Stourport Town Council. I’d like to thank Stourport Town Council for working positively with us and their enthusiasm to take on this key asset valued by the local community.

“The transfer has been made possible through our localism initiative which is a fantastic opportunity to bring services closer to communities.

“The financial pressures on the council are very large with a projected £2.7m funding gap in 2024 and, unless we work closely with town councils and other local organisations, funding for some community based services will reduce or even end. This not something we want to do, so our localism strategy enables us to explore new ways to deliver them.”

Councillor Danny Russell, Mayor of Stourport said:

“We are delighted to be able to open this much loved paddling pool again. We know how much it is valued but we are also aware of the district council’s financial position. Taking it on is a positive move for the community and by working with the District Council we can together provide local services for local people. "
