Polling place review

News release issued:

Residents are being asked to have their say on the location of polling places in the Blakebrook & Habberley South and Franche & Habberley North wards.

Last year Wyre Forest District Council carried out a public consultation on the polling district and places. As part of the review, residents were able to comment on the accessibility of polling places and whether they provide reasonable facilities for voting.

Following responses to the consultation, full Council agreed at the meeting held on Wednesday 26 February to undertake a further review.

The proposal is to introduce a polling place in Habberley at Habberley Social Club. Under these plans, residents who usually vote at Gainsborough House Hotel would vote at either Habberley Social Club or Kidderminster Carolians Rugby Football Club. Some residents who normally cast their vote at Kidderminster Carolians Rugby Football Club would see their polling place change to Habberley Social Club. This will depend on their postcode.

Ian Miller, Electoral Registration Officer at Wyre Forest District Council said: “Following the initial review of polling places, the Council is now looking for feedback on potential changes to where people in Blakebrook & Habberley South and Franche & Habberley North wards go to vote. Feedback is welcome from everyone, including those with expertise in access by disabled people, and particularly from electors in those wards.”

For more information on the plans and to submit feedback residents can visit www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/pollingreviews.

The consultation is running until 5pm on Friday 6 November 2020. The full Council meeting on Wednesday 9 December will consider the results of the consultation and take a decision on what changes should be implemented for elections to be held in 2021.
