18,000 trees set to be planted at former Burlish Park golf course

Wyre Forest District Council’s rangers will be busy planting more than 18,000 trees at the former Burlish Park golf course next month.
The tree planting project is a key part of a joint plan between the council and Worcestershire Wildlife Trust to create a 600-acre nature reserve in the heart of the district between the towns of Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley.
It is hoped the locally sourced trees will boost air quality and benefit the wide range of wildlife species in the area.
The Woodland Trust has provided the trees to the council free of charge. A small number of pupils from Stourport High School will help the rangers with planting on Friday 4 December.
Councillor Helen Dyke, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Protection said: “We are very excited the tree planting project is going ahead from Thursday 3 December. In 2018, we took on the management of the site after Burlish Park golf club folded. Our rangers have worked really hard over the past two years to turn the golf course into a nature reserve.
“Our latest tree planting project is another opportunity to enhance the site by creating a woodland while improving air quality and giving wildlife a new habitat to thrive in for years to come. This work also goes hand-in-hand with the commitment the council made in May 2019 when we declared a climate emergency.”
