Free parking offer in Bewdley and Stourport

News release issued:

Car parking in Wyre Forest District car parks in Bewdley and Stourport-on-Severn will be free over the next two weekends.

The recent flooding had an economic impact on businesses as shoppers and visitors stayed away from the towns. The council is working on ways to help the local economy and businesses have suggested free car parking as an incentive.

Wyre Forest District Council is removing parking charges on the weekends of Saturday 14 – Sunday 15 March and Saturday 21 – Sunday 22 March.

The cost of the free parking offer is being met by the community recovery fund, set-up to support residents and businesses affected by flooding.

Councillor John Thomas, Cabinet Member for Operational Services said: “We recognise the utter devastation residents and businesses have faced due to flooding.

“As part of all the work we’re doing to help people get back on their feet, our colleagues in the North Worcestershire Economic Development and Regeneration team visited Bewdley and Stourport and spoke with several local business owners about how we can support them. Based on their feedback, we’re offering free car parking in the two towns over the next two weekends.

“We are also offering a range of help and financial support for anyone in the district affected by flooding. You can find out more by visiting the Council's flooding page."

On each weekend the free parking offer will end at midnight on Sunday. Charges will begin at 8am on Monday.
