Residents offered chance to save money on gas and electricity bills

News release issued:

Wyre Forest residents are again being offered the opportunity to save money on their gas and electricity bills through a scheme being run by Wyre Forest District Council.

Wyre Forest District Council has opened its Wyre Forest Energy Switch scheme for the fourth time in an effort to help its residents save money on their energy bills.

Wyre Forest Energy Switch is working in partnership with the Big Community Switch which is run by iChoosr. An energy auction, where suppliers compete for the opportunity to offer the lowest energy tariff, is held. Those residents who have registered their interest will be given a personalised offer showing how much they could save by switching.

Registration is free and people only need their most recent energy bill to sign up. Those who have registered their interest will be given a personalised offer showing how much they could save by switching and there is no obligation to switch.

This time the winning bid must also be offering 100% renewable electricity.

Councillor Nicky Martin, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Health, Well-being and Democratic Services said:

“Some residents will be paying too much, particularly if they haven’t switched supplier for a while, so I’d encourage everyone to sign up and see what offer they receive.

“Last time around, those who registered could have saved around £200 on average by switching through the scheme.”

The amount of money that can be saved will vary depending on the customer's current tariff, payment method, consumption and the winning bid.

There is no guarantee that an offer will be the cheapest, but the model aims to ensure the majority of participants are offered lower annual energy bills than they currently receive.

Residents who want to take part should visit our energy switch information page with their latest energy bill to hand as they will need the details during the registration process.

Registration opened on Tuesday 1st December 2020. The auction takes place on Tuesday 9 February 2021, with individual offers posted or emailed to residents from Monday 22 February 2021.

Residents who would like help registering or want more information about the scheme, can call iChoosr’s free helpline on 0800 048 5285

The council is also running a grant scheme where low-income families can apply for funding to make their homes more energy efficient. Grants are available for loft insulation, solar panels, draught proofing and the installation of high heat retention storage heaters. More information about the scheme, including the criteria is available on our Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery scheme page.
