Popular leisure centres in the district are set to welcome customers back next month.

Following the Government’s announcement to allow indoor gyms and leisure facilities to reopen, Wyre Forest Leisure Centre will open its doors on Friday 7 August and Bewdley Leisure Centre on Monday 24 August.

After Government instruction in March both centres were closed by Places Leisure who manage them on behalf of Wyre Forest District Council.

Since then, Places Leisure has been taking advice from Public Health England, following Government guidelines, and consulting with their trade body ukactive to make sure new measures are in place to reopen the centres safely.

Changes will include an increased cleaning schedule and clear signage to make sure visitors are following social distancing guidelines, aware of reduced activity capacities and know the locations of hand sanitizing and cleaning stations.

To help with social distancing, Places Leisure is asking customers to prebook sessions on the Places Locker mobile app or website when they reopen. Members will be able to start booking for sessions 14 days in advance. If members are not already registered for online booking, visit - https://www.placesleisure.org/how-to-register/.

A video has also been put together to help customers understand the reopening plans - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzKK5RbMGok&feature=youtu.be.

Councillor Helen Dyke, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Protection said: “We’re delighted Wyre Forest Leisure Centre and Bewdley Leisure Centre are reopening next month. We understand the important role the centres play in the community especially when it comes to improving people’s health, fitness and wellbeing.

“If you plan on visiting please make sure you follow the clear guidelines in place to make sure everyone stays safe.”

Stuart Booton, manager of Wyre Forest Leisure Centre said: “It’s exciting to be inviting customers back into the centre from 7 August. We are eager to help everyone back into their fitness routines in a safe and considered way. I would urge customers to visit our website before they arrive – it will list the new opening times, activities available and details of how customers can book onto each activity. We cannot wait to welcome our colleagues and customers back.”
