FAQs on Additional Flood Relief Scheme
Who can apply?
Any individual or family whose properties and contents have been damaged by flooding or who are suffering other hardship as a result of the flooding can apply for help.
Anyone affected can apply although priority will be given to:
- Uninsured, low income households, people over 70, families with young children, people with physical or learning disabilities, mental health needs or medical conditions.
- Individuals and families suffering financial or other hardship
- Insured households on low incomes suffering financial hardship with insurance excesses
We will not normally consider help towards:
- Gardens/garden furniture, sheds, outbuildings or fences
- Vehicles and garages
How much can I apply for?
The help available is dependant on individual circumstances and subject to funding availability. For those households who have received the £500 flood grant, the maximum top up we will award is £2,000. For those households who were not eligible for the flood grant but have faced financial hardship, the maximum we will award is £500. In both cases, we will consider issuing vouchers, goods or payments to third parties instead of cash where appropriate.
I’m a tenant, (this includes private tenants and Housing Association) can I apply to the fund?
Yes for replacement of essential items. We will not fund repairs to the property as they are the responsibility of your landlord.
I’ve got house insurance can I apply?
We will consider applications from someone with insurance but would need to know your personal circumstances, savings, income, any excess on your policy. When we have this information we would make a decision on any award. We are aware that everyone’s circumstance is individual but our priority will be to people experiencing financial hardship as a result of the floods. For example, where there is low income and a very high insurance excess.
What if I had insurance but I still have extra costs?
