A Collective Energy Switching Scheme brings people together to use group buying power to get an exclusive energy deal from suppliers. This scheme is being organised by Wyre Forest District Council and a company called iChoosr, who join together schemes like this from across the country.

Thousands of people across the country have already saved money by joining collective energy switching schemes. The scheme is FREE and makes it easy to switch energy provider. Signing up to take part does not mean that you have to accept the deal that is offered. Households that switched through the first Wyre Forest Energy Switch in May 2017 saved an average of £230 per year.

Collective energy switching schemes work by what is called a reverse auction. The different energy suppliers bid on a set day to supply energy to all those who have registered for the scheme. Whichever company makes the lowest bid by the end of the auction wins. Individual offers are then sent out to everyone who has registered and you decide whether you want to switch. You do not have to accept the offer, but if you decide to do so then switching over to the new supplier will be arranged for you. Please note that if you do decide to switch you are entering into a contract with an energy supplier, not with Wyre Forest District Council. The responsibility to provide energy and deliver your contract lies with the energy supplier.

iChoosr is a company which specialises in organising collective switching schemes. iChoosr acts as an independent and impartial intermediary between participating councils and energy suppliers. iChoosr runs three collective energy switches each year. Other local authorities throughout Great Britain will also be taking part in this switch, enabling iChoosr to assemble a large group of registrants from across the country for the auction.

The scheme is open to all Wyre Forest householders, so long as the energy bill is in their name or that of their partner. This includes people living in rented accommodation, those with a prepayment meter and those with a fuel debt of up to £500. The scheme is available to people who have a dual fuel tariff or who pay for electricity and/or gas separately. You don’t even need to live within the area covered by Wyre Forest District Council (or any of the other local authorities taking part in this switch)- you may register from anywhere in Great Britain.

Your potential saving depends on your current tariff, payment method and your electricity and gas usage, but ultimately on the winning bid. Your personal offer will include a comparison between your estimated current spend and estimated future spend calculated from the tariff details of the winning bid. The tariff offered will usually be for a one year fixed rate contract. Unfortunately we can’t guarantee that everyone will be able to save money by switching supplier - you may already be on a very good value tariff.Households that switched through the first Wyre Forest Energy Switch in May 2017 saved an average of £230 per year.
