Driver licensing

You need a licence from us if you want to drive Hackney Carriages or Private Hire Vehicles.

Our Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy sets out the criteria for licensed drivers and how we will consider licence applications to make sure that the applicant is a fit an proper person to hold a licence.

Once your complete application is received you will be invited to take the Taxi Driver Essential Skills and Knowledge Test. You will need to pass this test before your licence is issued. The test requires you to have a good knowledge of the Wyre Forest District, including more prominent street names and shortest and most appropriate routes through and across the area. You will also need to be aware of the driver conditions (link above) and both vehicle conditions and operator conditions.
