Xpressions Leisure Grant Scheme

Xpression Logo ColourThe Wyre Forest District Council 'Xpression' Leisure Grant Scheme is designed to open up new opportunities for groups or individuals who are taking part in arts, sports, environmental and heritage activities. The scheme, which incorporates the Ray Mercer Sporting Foundation awards, is intended to support small, local projects and people in achieving their potential. Individuals may apply for a maximum of £400 and groups/clubs, up to £1,000.

To be eligible for a grant from the Fund, you must:
  • be a resident
  • provide a detailed breakdown of what you need the grant for
  • complete the final evaluation.

Guidelines for Applicants

The Wyre Forest District Council Leisure Grant Scheme is designed to open up new opportunities for groups or individuals who are taking part in arts, sports, environmental and heritage activities. The fund is intended to support small, local projects and people in achieving their potential. Individuals may apply for a maximum of £400.00 and groups/clubs up to £1,000.

To be eligible for a grant from the Fund, you must:

• be a resident

• provide a detailed breakdown of what you need the grant for

• complete the final evaluation

Applications from individuals must be accompanied by a letter/reference from your coach/mentor

Priority will be given to projects that are:

  • new initiatives;
  • developing cultural opportunities/ activities;
  • developing individual / club talent or potential; and
  • supporting organisations/clubs to achieve their goals.
The scheme is unlikely to fund:
  • general revenue costs;
  • commercial organisations;
  • more than one application per year from the same individual or group

The sports grant for from the fund will be known as the Ray Mercer Sporting Awards. Since 1995 the Ray Mercer Sporting Foundation has awarded grants to individuals (under 25) who are excelling in their sport at County standard or higher. The Xpression fund continues to recognise the contribution Councillor Ray Mercer made to sport in the district by making awards to sporting talent and endeavour in his name.

Every Application will be assesed by a panel which will meet 2 times a year (June and December) to consider all applications.

Successful applicants will have up to 12 months to complete the project and spend the grant.

Please note that we expect to recieve more applications than we have funds to support. Even if an application fits the fund's priorities, it may not be possible to make a grant. Applications may be resubmitted.

The closing dates for 2016 applications is 
  • Friday 2nd December 2016

The closing date for 2017 applications is 

  • 9 June 2017
  • 1 December 2017
The following are examples of successful applications:
  • Tom Walker was awarded £150 towards the cost of equipment and attending national and international training and competitions for Samurai Judo.
  • Stourport Bowling Green Club was awarded £1,000 to purchase a portable skittle alley to enable it to offer a much wider range of activities to its members and increase their physical and social activity in the winter months.
  • Cuckoo's Nest Theatre Company works with groups of mentally ill and disabled people. Its award of £375 will enable the Company to develop its performance and to participate in an International Mask Festival.
