National Cycle Network

The National Cycle Network is a comprehensive network of safe and attractive places to cycle throughout the UK.

10,000 miles have been completed, one third of which are on traffic-free paths, the rest follow quiet lanes or traffic-calmed roads. It is co-ordinated by the charity Sustrans, with the support of over 450 local authorities and other partners.

Wyre Forest Cycle ForumWFCF

The Wyre Forest Cycle Forum was formed in 1998 to promote cycling within the area. The Forum acts as a facilitator and consultee for all matters relating to cycling. Membership has grown dramatically in recent years in line with the popularity of cycling as a mode of transport.

Members of the Forum include:

Members work to raise the public’s awareness towards cycling and to ensure that new infrastructure for cyclists is convenient and safe to use. Projects in which the Forum has been actively involved include:

  • Playing an active role in formulating the Wyre Forest Cycle Strategy (2.33MB), which identifies a prioritised cycle route network for the District. Please also see the progress monitoring report for Wyre Forest Cycling Strategy (2.41MB)
  • Promotion of annual National Bike Week and Travelwise Week events.
  • Advice to the Highways Agency on cycle infrastructure along local trunk roads (A449/A456)
  • Advice to Worcestershire County Council on local advisory cycle lanes along Bewdley Hill, Franche Road and Habberley Lane, Kidderminster.
  • Implementation of popular cycle route along the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal towpath linking the two towns Stourport-on-Severn and Kidderminster.
  • Helping to identify suitable sites for mountain biking in the area.
